© 2012 Comments - by John Toma
COMMENTS is a personal series that I conceptualized while reading the commentary below online news articles. I was struck by how I could identify single words or phrases within the body of specific content and create a brief poem that juxtaposed the timely reality of the article written as news. My goal is to immerse the reader into the real-world event or breaking story while at the same time allow them to reflect on the creative dimension, and the secondary story that unfolds on the page.
Please tell me if you enjoy this concept.
When you wake up we'll both be
In a room with four walls
And we'll both have to imagine,
In which corner the other's door exists.
I'll sit in a corner all day,
And you might walk to the Fish Market,
And when I fix my tie, you might be changing
Into a dress with a see-through back.
I can't be with you today my darling,
But I can think of you
And tell you from a wifi spot.

I'm happy to say that my website has officially launched!
I know you have a lot of options when you get online, but I hope you bookmark my page and make it part of your surfing routine. Let me tell you why...
1. I will post a new image at least five days a week. So your eyes can feast on art every time you visit my site.
2. I will write on topics related to photography, art, events, and other things I think we will both enjoy learning about. I primarily focus on what's happening in San Diego because I really do believe it's America's Finest City.
3. I will post information on the process of creating my art, and
provide pointers and techniques.
4. You will be rewarded - I will be announcing contests along with
give-aways of my prints.
5. I will not take you for granted - If you communicate with me, I
will write back. If I don't know the answer to something, or I
need more time to respond, I will say so.

A quick note about my photography:
Use of my images - Most of my images are Creative Commons, Non-Commercial. You can find my images all over the internet (the best way is through my site however). You can feel free to use my images on your blog, in your emails, or for any other "non-commercial" use, but I ask that you: 1. Credit me, John Toma as the photographer (Photo by John Toma), and 2. Provide a link to www.johntoma.com.
Buying a print - If you decide you would like to have a printed image, please consider buying it off of my site (this helps me create more art for you to enjoy - please know that this is not how I earn my living, but the proceeds go to better equipment, which I use in my mission to help others and give back to our communities). Simply click the image and it will take you to a gallery of images where you can find the piece you desire and add it to the shopping cart. My prints are VERY affordable, and I keep it that way by producing more work - as well, I use SmugMug as my fulfillment partner because the buying options are so unique and simple to fill... and I will always send you a personal thank you.
How can someone tell the difference between a creative commons (CC) photo and one that is not?
Well, usually the creator will include the disclaimer on their website. Some even have a promotional firm represent them, so what I usually do is perform a Google search and try to find the artist's personal site. My highest recommendation is never to assume. Usually, if you email the artist and tell them what you would like to use the photograph for, as long as it is non-commercial and you credit them, they will likely say yes. You are certainly welcome to email me if you have any questions about my work.
For commercial use - email me.
